If you have a large collection of CDs and DVDs, you may have a hard time cataloging them. Your labels may not be so clear or they could fade away in time, if you use a low quality marker on your discs. Instead of checking the data on each disc and writing it down, you can use CDCollector to catalog the contained files much faster. After scanning your discs, the application will record and store their indexes.

You can run CDCollector right after you download it from the Internet, without going through an installation process. The software takes up only 515 KB of disc space and it is compatible with all Windows versions, from Win 95 to Win 7.

The interface is simple, so you will not waste any time looking around vast sets of options. If a disc is inserted, you may click a button on the toolbar to scan it. A small window will pop up on the screen, with information about your disc, such as label, serial, number of files and folders and the total size of the files. After typing a title, date and a description, on the same window, you may click an OK button to save the information as a file.

Once a disc's index is saved, you will need to load the file on the interface. Saved discs are listed on the upper half of the interface. Selecting one will display its content, including the folders structure, on the lower half of the window. You can see the content of any CD or DVD, even if they are not inserted. If a disc is inserted, you can use different options to open or copy a file. It is also possible to bring up a few statistics, regarding the number of discs, folders, files and total size.

CDCollector comes with an advanced search function as well, which is found on a different tab. You can search for specific files or folders, using keywords and various criteria, like the CD on which it is located, creation or modification date and more.

Pros

You can save the indexes of any CDs or DVDs and store them in the same database. The software provides a search engine as well, making it easy to locate specific files. CDCollector comes in a small archive, so you don't need to install it.

Cons

When you save an index, the software will not add it to your database automatically. You will have to load the file yourself. Organizing discs and their contained data is done much easier with CDCollector. It makes it possible to see any data on your CDs or DVDs, even if they are not inserted in your computer.
